Basketball Recap: Rio Americano Takes a Loss

Rio Americano played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 67-30 defeat at the hands of the Woodcreek Timberwolves. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 753rd, while the Timberwolves are ranked 243rd).

Despite the loss, Rio Americano had strong showings from Brianna St. Jean, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points and six boards, and Lexie Miller, who posted two points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance also gave St. Jean a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (50%).

Ryan Nair continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Woodcreek, dropping a double-double with 25 points and 13 steals. Nair has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 30 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amaya Grant, who went 5 for 9 to rack up 10 points and three steals.

Rio Americano dropped their record down to 6-15 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Woodcreek, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Rio Americano has already played their next matchup, a 44-35 loss against Bella Vista on the 30th. As for Woodcreek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-50 defeat against Christian Brothers on the 30th.
