Softball Game Preview: Scotland County Tigers vs. Highland Cougars

Scotland County hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Scotland County will bounce into Monday's game after beating Canton, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Scotland County had just enough and edged out Canton 4-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for Scotland County.

Makenna Musgrove spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Scotland County's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Frederick, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Highland got the win against Knox County on Thursday by a conclusive 7-1. Considering the Cougars have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Calyn Mathes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Aspen Scifres, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Scotland County's record is now 5-6. As for Highland, their record now sits at 13-3.

Scotland County suffered a grim 21-0 defeat to Highland in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
