Who had Ohio's best individual performances? You vote, you decide. MaxPreps is proud to again sponsor the Ohio Athlete of the Week awards during the 2024-25 school year.

~ Each week during the season, there will be a fan-generated contest to tab weekly winners. 

~ Each winner receives a digital award patch for their MaxPreps player page. 

How does it work?

Nominees are selected from statistics submitted on MaxPreps. Coaches who do not have current access may request their free account here. Weekly finalists are released on MaxPreps every Tuesday and voting is conducted in a special poll. Voting ceases at noon on Mondays. The winners are announced the next day along with the next week's nominees.

Week 27 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Makennah Craft, Jackson Girls Wrestling
Senior became a three-time state champion at the OHSAA Wrestling Championship by winning the 100-pound class via tech fall (19-4). Went undefeated the last three years. Won the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association (OHSWCA) title as a freshman in 2022 during the final season before the sport was sanctioned by the OHSAA.
 
* Brogan Tucker, Graham Local (St. Paris) Boys Wrestling
Senior won his fourth OHSAA wrestling state championship with a victory via pin (1:34) to claim the 157-pound title in Division III. Finished the season 50-1.

Week 28-30 Ohio High School Athlete of the Week Nominees

* Bryce Stalnaker, Canton Central Catholic Boys Lacrosse
Senior ranks second in the state with 12 assists in three games. Had five-assist games in wins over The Linsley School and Cardinal Mooney. Also has four goals.
 
* Leland Beerman, Edgewood (Trenton) Boys Lacrosse
Senior attackman scored a school record 11 goals (and had an assist) in an opening day 17-8 win over Miamisburg. Also had six goals and six assists in a 15-5 win over Monroe; six goals and four assists in a 13-4 win over Monroe; and four goals and an assist in a 16-6 loss to La Salle. Currently ranks No. 1 in Ohio in goals (27) and points (38). Has 211 career goals and 83 assists.
 
* Zoe Cuvo, Bishop Hartley (Columbus) Girls Lacrosse
Senior leads the state in assists (16) and ranks fourth in points (26). Big game was a seven-assist, two-goal performance in a 17-4 win over Westerville South.
                                           
* Avery Theibert, Chaminade Julienne (Dayton) Girls Lacrosse
Junior ranks first in the state in goals scored (35) and points (38). She had nine, eight and seven goals, respectively, in wins over Waynesville, Miamisburg and McNicholas.
 
* Jenna Dee, Fairbanks (Milford Center) Softball
Senior started the season by hitting a home run in five straight games. Batting .545 with six HRs, 16 RBI, 12 hits, nine, runs, two triples and two doubles.
 
* Emerson "Emmy" Hayes, Lutheran West (Rocky River) Softball
Junior went 3-for-3 with six runs, four RBI, a double and a HR in a 22-21 win over Valley Forge. Also went 2-for-2 with three runs in a 23-15 win over St. Martin de Porres. Leads the state in stolen bases (16) and ranks sixth in batting average (.833).
 
* Brandt Filbrun, Franklin Monroe (Pitsburg) Baseball
Junior struck out 15 in a 10-0 win over Houston and 11 in a 6-2 win over Twin valley South. Leads the state in Ks (33) and wins (tree). Has a 0.79 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched.
 
* Camryn Spruell, Hillsboro Softball
Senior leads the state in strikeouts with 83 and ranks 72nd nationally with a 0.58 ERA. Had 20 Ks in a no-hit win over Eastern and 14 in a perfect game victory over Washington Court House. Batting .562 with eight runs and seven RBI. Is 37-7 with 641 Ks the last three years.

Week 1 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Braxton Leeth, Crestview (Convoy) Football
Junior carried the ball 21 times for 168 yards and five TDs in a 49-7 win over Parkway.



* Bailee Beall, Steubenville Girls Soccer
Junior opened the season with 10 goals and four assists in wins over Harrison Central, Cambridge and Oak Glen. Tied for the state-lead with 24 points.

* Jake LaVerde, Kirtland Football
Junior quarterback carried the ball 16 times for 341 yards and three TDs in a 55-34 win over Dalton. His TDs came on ruins of three, 70 and 54 yards. The victory was head coach Tiger LaVerde’s 250th.

Week 2 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Josh Schnetzer, New Miami (Hamilton) Football
Senior had a remarkable all-around game in a 40-20 win over Manchester. Intercepted three passes, averaged 34.7 yards on three kickoffs and returned one 82 yards for a TD and caught four passes for 61 yards and a TD.
 
* Alyse Christopher, Mt. Vernon Volleyball
Senior had 48, 42 and 42 assists in a loss to Johnstown Northridge, a win over Watkins Memorial and a loss to Newark, respectively. Her 260 assists ranks second in Ohio this season.
 
* Nick Sylvia, Wheelersburg Boys Soccer
Junior moved to within two points of 200 for his career with five goals in a 9-0 win over McDermott Northwest. Also had four goals and two assists in a 12-0 win over Waverly. His 16 goals currently ranks fifth nationally and his 35 points is seventh (and second in the state).
 
* Vivian Henninger, Fairfield (Leesburg) Girls Soccer
Sophomore scored five goals in a 12-0 win over McDermott Northwest. Earlier this season she had four goals and three assists in an 11-0 win over Peebles. Her 38 points and 16 goals currently leads the state.
 
* Grady Kinsey, Indian Valley (Gnadenhutten) Football
Junior surpassed 3,000 career rushing yards with 298 and five TDs in a 62-21 win over Meadowbrook. Ran the ball 14 times for a 21.3-yard per carry average. Went for 217 yards and four TDs in a 51-8 Week 1 win over Ellet. Carer numbers read 3,141 yards rushing and 53 total TDs (with 50 rushing).

Week 3 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Ella Meers, Stow-Munroe Falls Volleyball
Senior had 61 assists in a 3-2 win over Mayfield and 44 assists in a 3-2 win over North Royalton. Her 334 assists ranks third in Ohio this season. Has 1,291 career assists.
 
* Maci Brown, Danbury (Lakeside) Volleyball
Senior had 42 digs in a 3-2 loss to St. Joseph Central Catholic. Currently leads the state of Ohio with 300 digs this season. Has 1,304 career digs.
 
* Trey Moore, Wellington Football
Junior had 27 tackles, a sack and fumble recovery in a 21-14 win over Plymouth. Has 58 tackles in three games this season.

Week 4 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Owen Jurjavcic, East Palestine Football
Senior carried the ball 31 times for 314 yards and five TDs and completed 11-of-15 passes for 131 yards and a TD in a 42-27 win over David Anderson. Also had five tackles and a forced fumble. Has run for 825 yards and 11 TDs and thrown for 382 yards and five TDs for the 3-1 Bulldogs.
 
* Joshua Byers, Danville Football
Senior had 25 tackles (12 solo), four TFL and a rushing TD in a 20-8 win over Mt. Gilead. His 72 tackles ranks No. 2 nationally. Averaging 18 tackles-per-game.
 
* Daylee Sandlin, Greeneview (Jamestown) Girls Soccer
Junior had 11 goals and four assists in wins over Springfield Catholic Central, Dayton Christian and Unioto. Her 22 goals ranks 15th nationally.

Week 5 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Zebulin Kinsey, Toronto Football
Senior quarterback and Cincinnati recruit completed 13-of-14 passes for 435 yards and seven TDs in a 53-13 win over Oak Glen.
 
* Nathan Hemberger, Western Reserve (Berlin Center) Football
Senior surpassed 300 career tackles with 22 in a 41-22 win over Lowellville. Has 85 tackles and eight TFL this season and 303 tackles and 39 TFL for his career.
 
* Nolan Hopson, Hardin Northern (Dola) Football
Senior scored 32 points (five TDs and two PATs) in a 38-15 win over Perry. Closing in on 400 career points (has 397). Currently averaging 10.7 points per game in 37 career games.

Week 6 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Nate Emrick, Dixie (New Lebanon) Boys Soccer
Senior netted seven goals in a 12-1 win over Franklin-Monroe. His 37 goals and 82 points this season rank fifth and sixth nationally, respectively.
 
* Libbie Baker, Hilltop (West Unity) Volleyball
Senior went over 1,000-career kills with games of 26, 25 and 24 kills in wins over Stryker, Evergreen and Montpelier, respectively. Career numbers read 1,037 kills, 340 digs and 334 blocks.
 
* Maxwell Hawkins, Crestview (Columbiana) Football
Senior went over 1,000-yards rushing for the season with 210 and five TDs on 21 carries in a 57-7 win over Brookfield. Has rushed for 1,038 yards and 16 TDs this season. Has 2,607 career rushing yards and 32 TDs.

Week 7 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Isaac Waller, Alexander (Albany) Football
Senior carried the ball for the first time this season and scored a 62-yard TD on his first carry en route to 154 yards and three TDs on 16 totes in a 40-0 win over River Valley. Also had 21 tackles, three TFL, a sack, a blocked punt and a fumble recovery. Averages 14.1 tackles over his career, which includes 282 tackles, 26 TFL and 12 sacks.
 
* Jaxson Wenger, Northmor (Galion) Football
Senior receiver snagged seven passes for 203 yards and three TDs in a 42-0 win over East Knox. Averaging 27.5 yards per reception (14 catches for 385 yardsd) this season and has six TDs.

Week 8 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Kyleigh Lippincott, Minerva Girls Soccer
Junior had seven goals in an 11-0 win over Edison. Also has six- and five-goal games this season. Has 167 career points (67 goals and 33 assists).
 
* Turner Lachey, Lehman Catholic (Sidney) Football
Junior completed 20-of-35 passes for 395 yards and five TDs in a 35-7 win over Covington. Has 2,202 yards passing and 26 TDs this season.

Week 9 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Eva Becerril, Sycamore (Cincinnati) Girls Golf
Junior shot a two-day total of 143 to win the OHSAA Division I girls golf state championship.
 
* Grace Hastings, Pettisville Volleyball
Junior had 51 assists in a 3-1 win over Stryker. Her 797 assists this season ranks ninth in Ohio. Has 1,146 career assists.

Week 10 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Aaron Walters, Logan Elm (Circleville) Football
Senior completed 21-of-28 passes for 304 yards and five TDs in a 34-32 win over Hamilton Township. Career numbers are 6,415 passing yards and 57 passing TDs.
 
* Lauryn Auchmuty, Columbus Grove Girls Soccer
Senior had four goals in a win over Mansfield Christian and three goals and an assist in a win over Bluffton. Her 47 goals this season ranks 17th nationally, while here 110 points is 18th. Has 336 career points (144 goals and 48 assists).

Week 11 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Landon Kimmel, Tippecanoe (Tipp City) Boys Cross Country
Junior set the state meet record and course record (regardless of division) at Fortress Obetz en route to winning the OHSAA Division I state championship by 14 seconds with a time of 14:33.81. Finished third last year.
 
* Daniela Scheffler, Lake (Uniontown) Girls Cross Country
Senior set the course record at Fortress Obetz en route to winning the OHSAA Division I state championship with a time of      7:01.29.

Week 12 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Suzie Roginski, Bishop Watterson (Columbus) Girls Soccer
Junior made two saves during PKs as the Eagles won the program’s first soccer state title 3-0 in PKs over North Royalton in the D-II state final.
 
* Layton Massie, River View (Warsaw) Boys Soccer
Junior had 13 saves in a 1-0 2OT win over Worthington Christian in the D-IV state championship.
 
* Susan Schaaf, Springboro Girls Soccer
Junior had 11 saves in goal as the Panthers claimed their first girls soccer state title with a 4-2 win in PKs over Walsh Jesuit in the D-I state final. Walsh was ranked No. 2 in the country.

Week 13 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

Bodpegn Miller, Ontario Football
Senior and Ohio State recruit completed 13-of-28 passes for 294 yards and three TDs and carried the ball 24 times for 209 Yards and two TDs in a 49-48 win over Shelby.
 
* Cyren Wallace, Danville Football
Freshman carried the ball 12 times for 293 yards and two TDs in a 46-6 win over Miller. Has 797 yards rushing and 12 TDs this season.
 
* AJ Bower, Northmor (Galion) Football
Senior went over 7,000-career yards in a 21-7 win over Ridgewood. Was 14-of-19 for 213 yards and two TDs in the game. Career numbers read 435-of-726 passing for 7,151 yards and 90 TDs.

Week 14-15 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Shaun Terry, Ironton Football
Senior and Missouri recruit caught 10 passes for 148 yards and two TDs, ran for a 67-yard TD and intercepted a pass in a 28-17 win over Liberty Center in the OHSAA D-V state championship.
 
* Grady Kinsey, Indian Valley (Gnadenhutten) Football
Junior ran for 247 yards on 36 carries and accounted for 34 of Indian Valley’s 37 points (new OHSAA D-IV state title game record) in a 37-36 win over Perkins. Rushed for four touchdowns, recovered his own fumble in the end zone for a fifth touchdown and converted a pair of two-point conversion attempts. He also completed a 50-yard pass.

Week 16 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Abbie Schmidt, Eaton Girls Wrestling
Sophomore won the 140-pound title at the third annual Eaton Women’s Wrestling Invitational in dominating fashion. Pinned all five of her opponents in 0:30, 0:31, 0:09, 1:29 (semifinal) and 0:43 (final), respectively.
 
* Haylee Beachy, Shekinah Christian (Plain City) Girls Basketball
Junior had 16 assists, 12 points, five rebounds and four steals in a 60-55 win over Tree of Life Christian. Averaging nine points, 6.3 assists (8th in Ohio), 3.7 steals and three rebounds.

Week 17-18 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Quinn Kwasniak, Cornerstone Christian (Willoughby) Boys Basketball
Senior hit 19 three-pointers, went 21-of-21 at the FT line and dropped 53 and 49 points in wins over Kirby (TN) and Lafayette (MO), respectively. Also had 16 rebounds and 11 assists in the contests. Averaging 36.7 points and seven assists a game, which ranks fifth and 55th nationally, respectively.
 
* Brody Durham, Crestwood (Mantua) Basketball
Sophomore had 17 assists and four steals in a 67-47 win over LaBrae and 13 assists, eight points and four steals in a 78-44 win over Ravenna. His 7.6 assists per game ranks 35th nationally. Also averages 10 points, 3.7 steals and 3.2 rebounds.
 
* Cameron Elwer, St. John's (Delphos) Boys Basketball
Junior scored 41 points in a 78-46 win over Parkway to make him the Blue Jays all-time leading scorer with 1,482 points.
 
* Caleb Ryman, Covington Wrestling
Junior put together an impressive run en route to winning the 150-pound title at the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Tournament. He won his five matches 15-0, 17-2, 4-1, 12-2 and 19-4 (in the final). Ryman already has 100 career wins and is the first Buccaneers wrestler to win a GMVWA title since 2018.

Week 19 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Morgan Crawford, Cleveland Central Catholic Girls Basketball
Senior had 33 points, 14 rebounds and three assists in a 69-60 loss to Gilmour Academy. Also had 28 points, 14 rebounds, nine steals and five assists in a 59-38 win John Marshall and 16 points, seven steals, six rebounds and four assists in a 61-37 win over Bedford. Averaging 20.1 points (ranks 21st in Ohio), 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 steals.
 
* Gavin Wagner, Calvert (Tiffin) Boys Basketball
Senior had 63 points, 35 rebounds and 15 assists in wins over Woodmore, New Riegel and Clyde. Averaging 19.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
 
* Kennedy Houston, Centennial (Columbus) Girls Basketball
Sophomore had 25 points, 10 steals, five assists and three rebounds in a 72-17 win over Whetstone and 21 points, six steals, five assists and five rebounds in a 60-23 win over Linden McKinley. Averages 21.2 points (ranks 18th in Ohio), 8 steals (second in Ohio), 6.6 assists (third in Ohio), 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks.

Week 20 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Brooke Bender, Anthony Wayne (Whitehouse) Girls Basketball
Senior reached 1,000-career points with 16 in a 61-47 win over previously unbeaten Mason at Classic in the Country. Also had 23 points (five 3s) in a 68-38 win over Green at CIC.
 
* Carter Behlmer, Lake (Millbury) Boys Basketball
Junior set a new school record with nine 3-points (en route to 30 points) in a 78-34 win over Rossford.
 
* Maggie Pothast, Fort Jennings Girls Basketball
Senior scored 19 points to surpass 1,000 for her career in a 55-32 loss to Hardin Northern.

Week 21 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Dominic Bell, Lawrence Upper (Sagamore Hills) Boys Basketball
Senior dropped 50 points in a 86-23 win over Heritage Classical Academy. Averaging 18 points.
 
* Gator Nichols, Maysville (Zanesville) Boys Basketball
Junior hit a school-record nine 3s en route to 41 points (eight rebounds and four assists) in an 83-33 win over River View. Averaging 25.9 points, 4.2 assists, four rebounds and 2.3 steals. Career numbers are 819 points, 175 assists and 154 rebounds.
 
* Elizabeth Dunmire, Villa Angela-St. Joseph (Cleveland) Girls Basketball
Junior had 20 points, 22 rebounds, six blocks, five assists and four steals in a 57-47 win voer John Hay. Also had 31 points, 15 rebounds, four blocks, four steals and four assists in a 69-41 win over Warren JFK. Averaging 18.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, 4.4 steals and 3.5 assists. Career numbers read 1,270 points, 695 rebounds, 259 steals and 182 assists.

Week 22 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Kaylah Thornton, Fairmont (Kettering) Girls Basketball
A week after becoming the program’s all-time steals leader, the junior surpassed 1,000-career points with 23 (and eight steals) in a 78-20 win over Northmont. Averaging 16.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.1 steals and 2.4 assists.
 
* Colton Conkle, Coshocton Boys Basketball
Senior dropped 33 points in a 56-53 win over New Lexington to became the program’s all-time leading scorer (1,531 points and counting). Tom Sandry set the previous mark in 1984.

Week 23 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Emily Moore, Shenandoah (Sarahsville) Girls Basketball
Sophomore had 18 points, nine rebounds and nine steals in a 46-24 win over Wood County Christian and seven points, 10 assists, nine steals and seven rebounds in a 64-44 loss to John Marshall. Averaging 13.8 points, 5.6 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 5.1 steals.

* Carter Wheeldin, Caldwell Boys Basketball
Senior had 91 points, 40 rebounds, 12 steals, 10 assists and eight blocks in wins over Eastern, Frontier and River. Averaging 18.8 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.3 assists and 2.4 blocks. Career numbers read 923 points, 759 rebounds, 265 assists, 216 steals and 138 blocks.

Week 24 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Steven Lincoln, Crestwood (Mantua) Boys Basketball
Senior hit a program record 11 three-pointers (and scored 33 points) in an 87-35 win over Ashtabula St. John. The 11 three-pointers made (shot 18) is tied for the 26th best made 3-point effort in state history. Averages 10.1 Points.
 
* Nylah McShan, Steubenville Girls Basketball
Junior had 68 points and 41 rebounds in wins over River, Zanesville and Dover. Averaging 20.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.3 assists. Career numbers are 891 points, 430 rebounds and 126 steals.
 
* Brody Buchanan, Fairland (Proctorville) Boys Basketball
Senior had 35 points, three assists and three rebounds in a 68-62 win over Chesapeake. Averaging 18.9 points, 4.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds. Career totals are 605 points, 134 assists and 131 rebounds.

Week 25 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Jeybrehm Price, Maumee Valley Country Day (Toledo) Boys Basketball
Sophomore had 49 points and 23 rebounds win wins over Lake and Lakota. Averaging 18.6 points and 8.5 rebounds. Has seven double-doubles.

* Cooper Crouch, Riverside (De Graff) Boys Bowling
Sophomore rolled a 760 series to win the title at the Division II Beaver-Vu District Tournament. Rolled a 744 series to win the Sectional Tourney a week earlier at Rollhouse Lanes.

Week 26 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week

* Christopher Ritchie, Mechanicsburg Boys Bowling
Senior won the OHSAA Division II Bowling state title with a 764 series that included a 296 game.
 
* Maddie Moody, Archbishop Alter (Kettering) Girls Basketball
Senior and Northern Kentucky recruit scored a career-high 32 points in a 67-63 D-V regional final win over McNicholas to become the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,638 points.
 
* Nadia Lough, Rootstown Girls Basketball
Senior had 45 points, 18 rebounds and six assists in wins over Smithville (37-36) and Canton Central Catholic (67-55). Averaging 12.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, three assists and 2.1 steals. Career numbers are 1,184 points, 884 rebounds, 226 steals, 205 assists and 68 blocks.
