De La Salle of California, Brother Rice of Illinois move into rankings for first time this year.

Winners in the California, Illinois and Texas state playoffs all  made a move in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings.

De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) rallied from a two-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh to capture the Northern California Division 1 championship and moved into the rankings for the first time this year at No. 11. In the semifinals, the Spartans also defeated a St. Mary's (Stockton) team that had won the Boras Classic earlier this season.

Brother Rice (Chicago, Ill.), meanwhile, advanced to the semifinals of the Division 1 state tournament with wins over Providence Catholic (New Lenox) and Chicago Mt. Carmel, two of its Chicago Catholic Blue rivals. The Crusaders move into the rankings for the first time this year at No. 12.

Two Texas teams dropped out of the rankings as Pleasant Grove (Texarkana) and Liberty-Eylau (Texarkana) both lost their state championship games. Tomball, ranked No. 21 last week, also lost in the state final to Kingwood but the defending 6A state champions stayed in the rankings at No. 23 due to its one-run loss.

Venice (Fla.) moved back into the rankings at No. 25 even though it hasn't played in almost a month. Venice, and Puyallup (Wash.), both had strong seasons before suffering shocking upsets in the playoffs.

Game of the week: De La Salle def. Junipero Serra (San Mateo, Calif.), 5-4. Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, De La Salle got back-to-back doubles by Tyler Spangler and Antonio Castro to tie the game at 4-4. Niko Baumgartner then singled to drive in the winning run.

Game to watch: Brother Rice vs. McHenry (Ill.). While Brother Rice entered the rankings this week and could be considered the favorite in this Division 1 state tournament semifinal game, McHenry is actually the No. 1 seed in the bracket.

Pitcher of the week: Graham Schlicht of De La Salle got the shutout win over St. Mary's, a team De La Salle had lost to earlier in the season.

Hitter of the week: James Clark of St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) came up big in the Southern California Division 1 championship game against Patrick Henry (San Diego) with a double and a triple.

Streaks: Pinkerton (Derry, N.H.) added a win last week over Bishop Guertin (Nashua) in the Division 1 state tournament quarterfinals to up its winning streak to 31 games. However, Governor Livingston (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) won three times last week to win the Central Jersey Group 2 championship and extend its winning streak to 33 games in a row. Pinkerton and Governor Livingston could each get two more wins this year and extend their streaks into next season.
