Baseball Recap: Piedmont Academy's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Piedmont Academy proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Gatewood Gators. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Gators on their field since May 7, 2022.

Piedmont Academy got a great performance from Nick Gervasio as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Zach Simmons was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Statham, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The win was the fourth in a row for Piedmont Academy, bringing their record for this year to 6-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.5 runs. As for Gatewood, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-4.

Coincidentally, Piedmont Academy and Gatewood will both be playing Trinity Christian the next time they take the field. Gatewood will head out to face Trinity Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Piedmont Academy will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
