Baseball Recap: Piedmont Academy Cougars vs. Gatewood Gators

Piedmont Academy proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Gatewood Gators. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Gators on their field since May 7, 2022.

Piedmont Academy got a great performance from Nick Gervasio as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Zach Simmons was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Statham, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
