Volleyball Recap: Kearney Falls Despite Big Games from Elle Cochran and Merrick Bruce

If Kearney was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Duchesne last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bearcats took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fremont Tigers on Monday. The Bearcats haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

While Kearney had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18.

Despite the loss, Kearney had strong showings from Merrick Bruce, who had 16 digs and two aces, and Elle Cochran, who had eight digs and one assist.

Fremont found their leader in freshman Everleigh Kerkman, who had ten digs and two aces.

Kearney's defeat dropped their record down to 19-11. As for Fremont, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-12.

Kearney didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-1 win against Lincoln Northeast on the 21st. As for Fremont, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Lincoln North Star on the 21st.
