Football Recap: Montebello Oilers vs. Schurr Spartans
Montebello played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Schurr Spartans, falling 42-7. The Oilers haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Joe Curiel threw for 72 yards on five of 14 attempts. Francisco Mirelez was his top target, picking up 38 receiving yards. On the ground, Sebastian Rodriguez rushed for 60 yards.
Schurr got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyler Higashi out in front who rushed for 138 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Higashi a new career-high. Alberto Chavez also helped out with an impressive 83 receiving yards.
Montebello's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Schurr, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Montebello has already played their next matchup, a 54-36 victory against San Gabriel on the 30th. As for Schurr, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 35-2 win against Bell Gardens on the 31st.
