Basketball Recap: Penelope Reininger's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Conemaugh Valley over United

Conemaugh Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 48-32 bruising from the United Lions. The Blue Jays were down 48-17 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Conemaugh Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Penelope Reininger, who posted ten points and five boards. Reininger is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Illy Darcangelo was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Conemaugh Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Leading United to victory were Lilly McGinnis and Braleigh James. McGinnis went 8 for 17 en route to 18 points along with seven steals and five rebounds, while James went 6 of 12 on her way to 18 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which McGinnis has scored at least a third of United's points.

Conemaugh Valley's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for United, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9.

While Conemaugh Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
