Softball Recap: Columbus Has No Trouble Against Drew Charter

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Columbus had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over Drew Charter. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won 11 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Addi Hart made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September.

In other batting news, Aubrie McBride was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Hendrick, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Columbus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .786. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Columbus' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-15. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Drew Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Columbus beat Drew Charter by a score of 20-0 later that day.
