Softball Game Preview: Severance Silver Knights vs. Greeley Central Wildcats

Severance has gone a perfect 3-0 against Greeley Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Silver Knights will welcome the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Severance has six straight wins, Greeley Central has 14 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Severance lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Berthoud, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Silver Knights put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 10-2 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Silver Knights have won 12 contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Katie Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kenzy Henneke, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Carly Zentveld was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Severance was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Greeley Central fell victim to Greeley West and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 17-0.

Severance's win bumped their record up to 16-4-1. As for Greeley Central, their loss dropped their record down to 2-19.

Severance took their victory against Greeley Central in their previous matchup back in September by a conclusive 27-0 score. Will the Silver Knights repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
