Basketball Recap: Foothill Tech Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Foothill Tech hadn't done well against St. Bonaventure recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Dragons narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Seraphs 49-46. The 49-point effort marked the Dragons' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Foothill Tech got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashton Brown out in front who shot 47% from the field on his way to 19 points. Brown continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Erik Hernandez was another key player, putting up eight points along with six rebounds and six steals.

Foothill Tech smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

St. Bonaventure's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Adam Ayala, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards, and Zac Broberg, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 13 points and five assists. Ayala has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Becerril, who posted two points and three steals.

Foothill Tech's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for St. Bonaventure, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Foothill Tech didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-53 loss against Buena on the 13th. As for St. Bonaventure, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 67-27 defeat against Bishop Diego on the 12th.
