Washburn Rural had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds by a score of 51-41 on Friday. The Blues have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Thunderbirds, too.

Defeat or not, Shawnee Heights got some senior leadership from Aiden Scott and Tyren Parker. Scott threw for 428 yards and four touchdowns, while Parker picked up 172 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Parker also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending one pass. David Wakes helped Scott out on the ground, rushing for 67 yards and a pair of scores.

Washburn Rural didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 31-30 victory against Blue Valley on the 12th. As for Shawnee Heights, they have also already played their next contest, a 76-35 win against West on the 12th.
