Soccer Preview: Hubbard vs. South Range
The Hubbard Eagles will head out to square off against the South Range Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
Hubbard is headed into Monday's contest hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight losses. They fell 2-0 to Boardman on Saturday. The shutout was out of character for Hubbard seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in August.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Range). They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over McKinley on Thursday. The result was nothing new for South Range, who have now won five matchups by three goals or more so far this season.
Their offense was hitting McKinley from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Mason Naples led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by himself.
The victory was the fourth in a row for South Range, bringing their record up to 8-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four matches. As for Hubbard, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5-1.
Everything went Hubbard's way against South Range in their previous matchup back in September, as Hubbard made off with a 5-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
