Softball Game Preview: Decorah-North Winneshiek Vikings vs. Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks

The Decorah-North Winneshiek Vikings will venture away from home to face off against the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Decorah-North Winneshiek barely beat Mason City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Mohawks on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Meanwhile, Waverly-Shell Rock had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Warriors an 8-0 shutout.

Decorah-North Winneshiek's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Waverly-Shell Rock, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.

Decorah-North Winneshiek suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Waverly-Shell Rock in their previous meeting back in July of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
