Basketball Recap: Sunny Hills Takes a Loss

Sunny Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 55-41 to the Canyon Comanches. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 39-37 on January 7th.

Despite the defeat, Sunny Hills saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rianna Jones went 5 of 7 en route to 11 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Jones has become a key player for Sunny Hills: the team is 11-5 when she posts at least five steals, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sydney Kim, who posted 14 points.

Sunny Hills' record is now 14-12. As for Canyon, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Sunny Hills and Canyon could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Sunny Hills will challenge Crean Lutheran at 5:30 p.m. on January 31st down 283 places (318 vs. 35). Meanwhile, Canyon (ranked 246th) will meet El Dorado (ranked 68th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
