Softball Recap: Thomas County Central Comes Up Short

Thomas County Central had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 11-15 to make it six. They came up short against the East Coweta Indians, falling 13-1. The Yellow Jackets were not able to make up for their loss to the Indians from their previous meeting back in August of 2017.

As for East Coweta, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-3. Considering they have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For East Coweta's part, McKenna Holmes looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gaby Gopie, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.5 RBI per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Joiner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

Coming up, Thomas County Central will venture away from home to face off against Houston County at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bears' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Yellow Jackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for East Coweta, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northgate at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Indians 1.6, the Vikings 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
