Baseball Recap: Thornton Fractional South Takes a Loss

Thornton Fractional South extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-13-1 in the process. They lost 17-3 to the Oak Lawn Spartans. The Red Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Oak Lawn, they pushed their record up to 9-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games.

For Oak Lawn's part, Zack Ullrich looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Ullrich also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Spartans are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Hilger, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Oak Lawn is 7-2 when Hilger posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Frankie Nutile was another key player, earning three runs and two stolen bases.

Thornton Fractional South wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 14-2 loss against Crete-Monee on the 26th. As for Oak Lawn, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-2 victory against Blue Island Eisenhower on the 28th.
