Football Recap: Tri Piles Up the Points Against Monroe Central

Tri got themselves on the board against Monroe Central on Friday, but Monroe Central never followed suit. They blew past the Golden Bears, posting a 49-0 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Titans just coasted through the last quarter.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Isaiah Dewitt and Masyn Chalfant. Dewitt rushed for 175 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries while Chalfant rushed for 109 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. That's the most rushing yards Dewitt has posted since back in September of 2024.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Tri proved: they limited Monroe Central to a paltry 2.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Jonah Cox for the heroic effort on defense: he. Tri didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 12.1.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Tri, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Dewitt, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

The victory made it two in a row for Tri and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 points in those games. As for Monroe Central, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Tri will challenge Centerville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Monroe Central, they will square off against Tindley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Bears will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
