Football Recap: Texico Piles Up the Points Against Loving

Texico extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 5-3. They took their game with ease, bagging a 51-7 win over the Loving Falcons. The Wolverines' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Cross Figg produced another solid performance rushing for 165 yards and one TD, while also throwing for 102 yards and three touchdowns. He has become a key player for Texico: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jaheim Moses, who rushed for 74 yards and one score on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Texico was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 263 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 263 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

As for Loving, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-1 Eunice (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.9% over those games).

Tristen Onsurez and Rider Gonzalez certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Onsurez threw for 153 yards and one TD, while Gonzalez picked up 37 receiving yards and one touchdown. Gonzalez also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making four total tackles and defending one pass.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Texico is set to take on their familiar foe Eunice at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Figg and Elijah Melancon. Meanwhile, Loving will square off against rival Tularosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
