Baseball Recap: Monroe Area Takes a Loss

If Monroe Area was riding high fresh off their 12-1 takedown of East Hall last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Purple Hurricanes came up short against the Jefferson Dragons on Tuesday, falling 13-1. The Purple Hurricanes have struggled against the Dragons recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Monroe Area saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayson Gmerek, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Gmerek has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Monroe Area's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Jefferson, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-12 record.

While Monroe Area had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
