Basketball Recap: Arvin Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Melina Gracia and Mariana Soto + How To Watch

After flying high against Hanford on Saturday, Arvin came back down to earth. The Bears fell 42-38 to the Golden West Trailblazers on Monday. The game marked the Bears' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Arvin had strong showings from Mariana Soto, who almost dropped a triple-double with 16 points, nine boards, and nine steals, and Melina Gracia, who went 7-for-14 on her way to 14 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Soto has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Sashary Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Leading Golden West to victory were Aniyah Venegas and Julissa Anaya. Venegas shot 53% from the field to rack up 24 points in addition to six boards and six steals, while Anaya went 5-for-12 en route to 14 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Venegas has scored at least a third of the Trailblazers' points.

Arvin's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Golden West, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1.

Arvin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-36 win against Strathmore on the 25th. As for Golden West, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Washington Union at 6:30 p.m. on December 4.
