Softball Recap: Winfield Finds Home Field Redemption Against St. Charles West

Winfield's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Howell North on Thursday. Everything went Winfield's way against St. Charles West as they made off with an 8-1 win. Winfield might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Ava Dixon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ella Ohlms was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Van Cleve, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Winfield hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Charles West struck out 16 times.

Winfield's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for St. Charles West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Winfield will look to defend their home field on Monday against Fort Zumwalt East at 4:15 p.m. As for St. Charles West, they will challenge St. Pius X at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lancers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.62 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
