Flag Football Recap: Mountain Pointe Comes Up Short

Mountain Pointe managed to slip by Desert Vista the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Pride were outmatched by the Thunder and fell 48-0. While losing is never fun, the Pride can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona flag football rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Thunder are ranked eighth).

Ariana Acosta threw for 94 yards on 13 of 21 attempts. Nevaeh Luevano was her top target, picking up 28 receiving yards.

Jackie Jimenez produced another solid effort throwing for 336 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.3% of her passes, and also rushing for 133 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries for Desert Vista. Those 336 passing yards gave Jimenez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samirah Nasser-Atiase, who picked up 46 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

This is the second loss in a row for Mountain Pointe and nudges their season record down to 4-4. As for Desert Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Mountain Pointe wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-7 loss against Desert Mountain on the 23rd. As for Desert Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 24-20 victory against Tucson High Magnet School on the 23rd.
