Basketball Game Preview: Mendota Aztecs vs. Coalinga Horned Toads

The Mendota Aztecs will take on the Coalinga Horned Toads at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mendota is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.

Mendota is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Dos Palos: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mendota blew Dos Palos out of the water with a 45-12 final score. The Aztecs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 23 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Coalinga's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Edison by a score of 53-50. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Horned Toads came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while the Vikings are ranked 676th).

Mendota is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.9 points per game. As for Coalinga, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-4.

Mendota came out on top in a nail-biter against Coalinga in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 36-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mendota since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
