Softball Recap: Mcloud Finds Playoff Glory Versus Checotah

McLoud had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on the Checotah Wildcats with a sharp 9-1 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Redskins, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Ella Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Makenzie Lane was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Avery Soward, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

McLoud hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive contests.

McLoud has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Checotah, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.

McLoud has already played their next matchup, a 5-0 defeat against Broken Bow on the 1st. As for Checotah, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 15-0 win against Catoosa on the 1st.
