Preview: Vista del Lago Eagles vs. El Camino Eagles
Vista del Lago is 10-0 against El Camino since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Vista del Lago Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the El Camino Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Vista del Lago is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than El Camino in California (Vista del Lago is ranked 106th, while El Camino is ranked 674th).
Last Wednesday, Vista del Lago came up short against Christian Brothers and fell 48-37. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Vista del Lago has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Vista del Lago got a solid performance out of Ella Skrzyniarz, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Skrzyniarz has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Pallari, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Even though El Camino has not done well against Rio Americano recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. El Camino managed a 41-37 victory over Rio Americano. The win made it back-to-back wins for El Camino.
Noelle Potratz continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Potratz is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Stake, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Vista del Lago's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for El Camino, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Vista del Lago have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for El Camino, though, as they've been averaging only 32.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Vista del Lago against El Camino when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 64-17 victory. With Vista del Lago ahead 36-11 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
