Basketball Recap: El Modena Takes a Loss

El Modena has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 25.53 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They came up short against the Brea Olinda Wildcats, falling 64-40. While losing is never fun, the Vanguards can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 472nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 206th).

Liz Han was a one-woman wrecking crew for Brea Olinda as she posted 19 points. Han's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sarah Wang, who put up 13 points.

El Modena's defeat dropped their record down to 16-3. As for Brea Olinda, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Modena will venture away from home to square off against Foothill at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brea Olinda, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Orange Lutheran at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Brea Olinda is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season.
