Baseball Game Preview: Alexander Cougars vs. Rome Wolves

The Alexander Cougars will face off against the Rome Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Rome took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Alexander, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Alexander needed a bit of extra time to put away Kennesaw Mountain. They had just enough and edged out the Mustangs 7-6.

Nathan Cromey tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Alexander is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Josh Sellers was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matthew Westbrook, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Rome's offense. They fell 5-0 to New Manchester on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Alexander's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-12. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs across that stretch. As for Rome, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

Alexander beat Rome 7-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Does Alexander have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rome turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
