Volleyball Recap: Grand Island Takes a Loss

Grand Island was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bellevue West Thunderbirds. The Islanders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thunderbirds apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Grand Island still got an impressive performance from Irelynn Sughroue, who had 12 digs and four aces. Sughroue has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alexa Sackschewsky, who had nine assists and eight digs.

Among those leading the charge was Sophia Miller, who had eight digs and two aces.

Grand Island's defeat dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Bellevue West, their victory bumped their record up to 9-21.

Grand Island wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against Millard South on the 11th. As for Bellevue West, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Norfolk on the 11th.
