Baseball Recap: Win-E-Mac Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Win-E-Mac hadn't done well against Fosston recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Greyhounds with a sharp 9-1 win. Considering the Patriots have won seven matchups by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kale Smeby and Owen Strom made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Smeby pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Strom struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Smeby has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Smeby got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, while Strom went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Strom a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayden Haugen, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Kolten Schow also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Win-E-Mac's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Fosston, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5.

Win-E-Mac does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fosston, they will be playing at home against Lake Park-Audubon at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
