Mount Union suffers fifth straight loss at home

Recap: Mount Union Trojans vs. Tussey Mountain Titans

The Mount Union Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 47-27 walloping at the hands of Tussey Mountain. While losing is never fun, Mount Union can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 593rd, while Tussey Mountain is ranked 227th).

Mount Union lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Maddie Dimoff, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Cailyn Skopic, who scored nine points.

Tussey Mountain got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cara Benton out in front who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. Benton is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Gabrielson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.

Mount Union's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-3. As for Tussey Mountain, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mount Union will take on Fannett Metal at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Fannett Metal is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Tussey Mountain, they will head out on the road to face off against West Branch at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
