Basketball Recap: Leigh Victorious

While Leigh has struggled on the road with four straight losses, that wasn't the case on Thursday thanks to Catalina Williams. The Leigh Longhorns strolled past the Del Mar Dons with points to spare, taking the game 52-35 thanks in part to Williams, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds gave her a new career-high.

The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia South, who posted seven points. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

When it comes to explaining why Del Mar lost, don't look at Zoey Hinkle. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 23 points and 17 rebounds. That was a full 65.7% of Del Mar's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Chimaya Morgan, who had two points in addition to nine rebounds and three steals.

Leigh's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Del Mar, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-8.

Leigh wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-38 loss against Prospect on the 11th. As for Del Mar, they will head out to square off against Gilroy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Del Mar is facing Gilroy at the right time seeing as Gilroy is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
