Basketball Recap: Chartiers Valley Colts vs. Upper St. Clair Panthers
The Chartiers Valley Colts were the 44-36 winner over the Upper St. Clair Panthers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Chartiers Valley fell to the Panthers 53-47. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Chartiers Valley came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Panthers are ranked 112th).
Chartiers Valley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lilah Turnbull, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, and Ava Shazer who scored 13 points along with two blocks. It was the first time this season that Shazer posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Iyla Ozbey, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Chartiers Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Chartiers Valley dropped their record down to 14-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Upper St. Clair, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9.
Chartiers Valley will face off against the Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Peters Township will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. Upper St. Clair does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
