Football Recap: Mayer Lutheran Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, Mayer Lutheran was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They never let the Madelia Blackhawks get on the board and left with a 19-0 win.

Mayer Lutheran can attribute much of their success to Gabriel Shimanski, who rushed for 48 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 149 yards on only 13 passes. Those 149 passing yards gave Shimanski a new career-high.

Mayer Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Madelia, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Mayer Lutheran will square off against Sleepy Eye at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Madelia, they will take on Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 9.2 points per game this season, so the Blackhawks' offense will have their work cut out for them.
