Tyrone Swoopes is a wanted man, as LSU makes offer

Whitewright (Texas) sensation Tyrone Swoopes may just be the most coveted quarterback in the Class of 2013.

The U.S. Air Force All-American continues to attract offers from practically every top program in the country.

He's attend Junior Days at Oklahoma, Baylor and on Sunday, Texas. All of those schools remain in the mix for Swoopes, while Alabama and Ohio State are among schools outside the Big 12 vying for his services.

The latest offer came today from LSU, Whitewright head coach Jack Wylie told MaxPreps.



Perhaps the most interesting team in the mix is Stanford. Swoopes seems intrigued with the Palo Alto, Calif., school, and the Cardinal could have the best chance of any out-of-state team to land him. He plans to take a trip to the West Coast to see the campus, according to Wylie.

"I'm pretty sure he's going to visit Stanford in the summer," he said.

Wylie doesn't expect Swoopes to commit in the spring or the summer. Since he joins the basketball team directly after the football season, he may not have much time to take visits after this summer.

Swoopes is currently averaging 19.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game for a Whitewright squad that is currently 20-7, with a game Tuesday against Pottsboro.

- Wylie says that Baylor continues to pursue Swoopes intensely. He also noted that the team's improved facilities have appealed to Swoopes.

- Nick Saban recently connected with Swoopes for a telephone call. After missing on top targets in the 2012 class, Alabama has a big appetite for elite quarterbacks this year, so it's no surprise Saban is making a push for Swoopes. According to Wylie, he did most of the talking. "He (Swoopes) got about four words in, two of which were 'Yes, sir,'" Wylie said.

- Swoopes enjoyed talking to Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer. The Buckeyes sent an assistant coach to visit Swoopes several weeks ago, and later followed up with a call from Meyer.



- Wylie said at least three different people called him last night to ask if Swoopes had committed to Texas during his visit for the Longhorns' Junior Day. Unlike previous seasons, in which Texas pushed hard to land commitments from recruits in attendance, the Longhorns appear to be slow-playing their pursuit of 2013 recruits. The shift in strategy could be a result of the coaching changes on Mack Brown's staff. It should provide Texas with a better opportunity to properly evaluate recruits.
