Baseball Recap: Wellington Triumphs

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Wellington walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the Sterling Tigers 6-5. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 11-4 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

The team relied heavily on Owen Gabbert, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Wellington's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-1 (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Conner Lance was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Wellington and bumps their season record up to 14-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Sterling, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-7.

As of now, neither Wellington nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
