Basketball Game Preview: Wheatland Pirates vs. Bear River Bruins

Wheatland hasn't had much luck against Bear River recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wheatland Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the Bear River Bruins at 6:00 p.m.

Wheatland is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Lincoln on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Wheatland was outmatched by Lincoln and fell 58-27. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1110th, while the Fighting Zebras are ranked 321st).

Meanwhile, Bear River blew past Oakmont, posting a 72-39 win. The Bruins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 games by 20 points or more this season.

Bear River has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.2 points over those games. As for Wheatland, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-19.

Wheatland was dealt a bruising 54-20 loss at the hands of Bear River in their previous matchup back in January. Can Wheatland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
