Softball Recap: Ponderosa Gets the Win

Ponderosa came out on top against Mountain Vista on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Mustangs took their game against the Golden Eagles 10-7. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Annabelle Horan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Horan was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Campbell Trombley, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Isabelle Hall also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Ponderosa lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Ponderosa and bumps their season record up to 7-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Mountain Vista, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-9.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Ponderosa is set to face off against their familiar foe Chaparral at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mountain Vista will take on rival Legend at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
