Softball Recap: Rutland Has No Trouble Against Howard

Rutland won the last time they faced Howard and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Hurricanes put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 17-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hurricanes.

Harley Adkison made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Adkison was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Gracie Newberry was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrianna Kadian, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Rutland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 2.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.

Rutland's win bumped their record up to 2-8. As for Howard, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Coming up, Rutland will head out on the road to take on Warner Robins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Howard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cross Creek at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Razorbacks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.25 runs per game on average), something the Huskies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
