Basketball Recap: Warren Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

While Warren didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Ocean View Seahawks by a score of 34-24 on Thursday. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 445th, while the Seahawks are ranked 958th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ocean View's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Guadalupe Fuentes, who posted seven points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Fuentes has posted since back in November of 2023. Dayana Quinonez was another key player, putting up two points and three blocks.

The victory made it two in a row for Warren and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for Ocean View, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Warren wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 37-19 win against Pacifica on the 27th. As for Ocean View, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 79-54 loss against Tesoro on the 27th.
