Baseball Game Preview: Moorhead Spuds vs. Andover Huskies

The Moorhead Spuds are taking a road trip to square off against the Andover Huskies at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Moorhead is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Minnesota's top teams: Monticello, who was ranked 18th at the time (Moorhead was ranked seventh). The Spuds fell just short of the Magic by a score of 6-5 on Friday.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Andover and Totino-Grace, and Totino-Grace kept the tradition alive. The Huskies fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday.

Andover got a good showing from Jack Simpson, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Simpson has allowed since back in April.

On the hitting side, Andover saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Price Caron, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Andover has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-5 record this season. As for Moorhead, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.

Moorhead might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from Andover in their previous meeting back in June of 2025. Can the Spuds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
