Basketball Recap: Liberty Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

Roosevelt came into Thursday's game looking for another win against Liberty, but Ellee Statler wouldn't allow it. The Liberty Patriots slipped by the Roosevelt Rough Riders 51-50 on Thursday thanks in part to Statler, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Liberty's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Matthews, who posted six points and seven assists. Those seven assists gave her a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Roosevelt still got an impressive performance from Nyleigh Gregory, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten boards. The contest was Gregory's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Nevaeh Reese was another key player, putting up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. As for Roosevelt, they moved to 13-2 with that loss, which also ended their 12-game winning streak.

Liberty will venture away from home to take on Independence at 6:30 p.m. on January 9th. As for Roosevelt, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-53 victory against Esperanza on the 3rd.
