Baseball Game Preview: Alexander Cougars vs. Villa Rica Wildcats

For the second straight game, Alexander will face off against Villa Rica. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Alexander Cougars challenge Villa Rica Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Alexander has won five straight at home, while Villa Rica won nine straight on the road), something that'll have to change.

On Friday, Alexander beat Villa Rica 6-2. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Matthew Westbrook was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Josh Sellers was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Alexander's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jessie Williams, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

With the defeat, Villa Rica broke their 19-game winning streak and moved their record to 19-2. As for Alexander, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.
