Soccer Preview: Woodstock vs. Sequoyah
Woodstock is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Sequoyah a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Woodstock Wolverines will welcome the Sequoyah Chiefs at 7:30 p.m. Both teams beat their previous opponents by a single goal, so this matchup might be just as contested.
While Woodstock's victory against Cherokee wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolverines' defense stepped up to hand the Warriors a 1-0 shutout on Monday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 13, 2021, but that streak is no more.
Meanwhile, Sequoyah hadn't done well against Riverwood recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Chiefs had just enough and edged out the Raiders 2-1. Caleb Mcclure had to tread lightly for part of the match after he was hit with a yellow card, but that was the only trouble Sequoyah got from the refs.
Ian Sweazy and Mcclure scored both of Sequoyah's goals, bringing their combined season tally to three goals.
Sequoyah is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-9 record this season. Woodstock's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-11.
Woodstock couldn't quite get it done against Sequoyah in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
