Soccer Game Preview: Capital vs. La Cueva

The Capital Jaguars will venture away from home to face off against the La Cueva Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Capital is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Sandia, who was ranked third at the time (Capital was ranked sixth). The Jaguars came up short against the Matadors on Saturday, falling 4-0. The loss continues a trend for Capital in their meetings with Sandia: they've now lost six in a row.

Meanwhile, Eldorado kept up with La Cueva until halftime on Saturday, but afterwards: not so much. The Bears' defense stepped up to hand the Golden Eagles a 3-0 shutout. Considering La Cueva have won six matches by more than two goals this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

They hit Eldorado with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Brice Clark, Jonah Grega, and Parker Hamill.

La Cueva has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-1-1 record this season. As for Capital, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.

Capital might still be hurting after the 4-0 loss they got from La Cueva in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
