Volleyball Recap: Old Lyme Wildcats vs. North Branford Thunderbirds
Old Lyme kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Branford Thunderbirds. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Thunderbirds: they've now lost six in a row.
Old Lyme started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 28-26, 25-16, 25-16.
Maya LeQuire paced Old Lyme's offense, picking up 19 kills. LeQuire got some help from Kaylyn Vernon and her 13 assists. Avery Goiangos controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.
Old Lyme has already played their next game, a 3-1 win against Coginchaug Regional on the 4th. As for North Branford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Hale Ray on the 4th.
