Soccer Recap: Irvine Takes a Loss

Irvine lost against Sage Hill on January 14th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Irvine Vaqueros fell 2-0 to the Sage Hill Lightning. While losing is never fun, the Vaqueros can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 732nd, while the Lightning are ranked 229th).

Irvine has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which is still a better percentage than their 2-11-1 record this season. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-1-2 Portola and 3-1-2 Portola (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.1% over those games). As for Sage Hill, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.

Irvine will face off against St. Margaret's at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Irvine is facing St. Margaret's at the right time seeing as St. Margaret's is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Sage Hill, they will take on Portola at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sage Hill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.4 goals per game this season.
