Baseball Recap: Rome's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Rome had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lithia Springs Lions a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Wolves' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last seven games.

Wyatt Costlow was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Rome: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-16 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brett Boden, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jackson Slatky was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Rome always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Rome's victory bumped their record up to 8-16. As for Lithia Springs, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Rome will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday.
