Recap: El Diamante Miners vs. Golden West Trailblazers

In what's become a running theme this season, the El Diamante Miners gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 73-26 win over Golden West on the road. Given El Diamante's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while Golden West is ranked 844th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

El Diamante's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Reyna Soto, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rian Jones-dillihunt, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.

Despite the loss, Golden West saw an underclassman step up: Aniyah Venegas scored 11 points along with four steals. That was a full 42.3% of Golden West's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Golden West struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as El Diamante racked up 23 assists.

El Diamante has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 17-9 record this season. As for Golden West, they dropped their record down to 9-20 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Diamante will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Cabrillo at 6:00 p.m. on February 14th. El Diamante has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Golden West, they will head out on the road to take on Immanuel at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Golden West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Thursday.
