Softball Recap: Discovery Has No Trouble Against Berkmar

Discovery's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Berkmar Patriots as they made off with a 23-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 23-0 on September 4th.

Taylor Platenburg made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Michaela Sartin was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Kendall Cross also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Discovery was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Discovery has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Berkmar, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Discovery does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Berkmar, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Meadowcreek at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
